  •   Areca Palm Indoor Tree, also called butterfly palm, is a tropical palm native to Madagascar. It belongs to the palm family and brings the foliage of warm climates indoors, growing as a houseplant in cooler zones and outdoors in warmer regions.

It grows with soft, fine-textured fronds that arch upward in a tree-like, clustering form. Its feathery green leaves emerge from tall, slender canes that create an upright silhouette, making it a natural focal point in any room or entryway with high ceilings.

Small yellow flowers bloom on mature plants during spring and summer, though indoor specimens may flower infrequently. It filters out common household toxins while adding tropical texture to living spaces.

Position it in a foyer, stairwell, or near a bright window where there is headroom to grow. You can leave it up to ten days without water. It is non-toxic around cats and dogs. Areca Palm works well as a solitary statement plant in containers indoors or on a porch area in warmer climates.

  •   Areca Palm Indoor Tree grows well in bright indirect light or partial sun throughout the year.

Water it every 10-14 days during the growing season, allowing the top inch of soil to dry between waterings.

Areca Palm does best in well-draining potting mix amended with peat or coco coir for moisture retention.

It prefers temperatures between 65-75°F and dislikes cold drafts or temperatures below 50°F.

Areca Palm grows upright and moderately fast, adding 6-12 inches per year with regular fertilizing during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10-11, tolerating frost only briefly at 32°F or above. It grows outdoors year-round in southern Florida, southern California, Hawaii, and parts of southern Texas and Louisiana.
  • Q: How much light does Areca Palm Indoor Tree need?
A: Place it near a window with bright indirect light or where it receives filtered sun for several hours daily. Direct afternoon sun can scorch the fronds.

Q: Is this plant safe for pets?
A: Areca Palm Indoor Tree is non-toxic and safe for cats, dogs, and other household pets.

Q: How fast does Areca Palm grow?
A: Growth rate depends on light and feeding; plants in bright conditions with regular spring and summer fertilizing develop faster than those in lower light.

    Q: Can I grow this indoors year-round?
A: Areca Palm grows well indoors as a permanent houseplant in any climate, provided you maintain consistent watering and bright indirect light.

Q: Does Areca Palm need high humidity?
A: It adapts to average indoor humidity but prefers moderate to high levels. Misting the fronds weekly or grouping it with other plants increases moisture around the foliage.

Q: How do I know if this needs repotting?
A: Repot in spring when roots emerge from drainage holes or the soil dries within a day or two of watering. Most plants need repotting every 1-2 years.

  • Provide porous soil with adequate drainage, pots with drainage hole are recommended. Bright, filtered light and ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Never let your succulents sit in water. Do NOT water on the leaves. If you water from beneath by letting the plant sit in a saucer of water, make sure to pour off any excess water after a few minutes. The hotter it is outside, the faster your soil will dry out, so you’ll need to water more often if you live in a hot area. Water with caution in winter, as the plant can lose its roots if the soil stays cold and wet for extended periods; protect from frost to prevent scarring.
