      •   Aloe Peglerae is a rare, endangered succulent native to the rocky quartzite hillsides of the Magaliesberg mountain range in South Africa's North West Province. This drought-tolerant aloe belongs to the Asphodelaceae family and grows naturally on harsh, well-drained slopes where rainfall is sparse and soils are lean. Also called the fez aloe or turk's cap aloe, it is a slow-growing succulent with serious appeal for collectors seeking rare South African plants.

          It forms a compact blue-grey rosette with thick, fleshy leaves that curve inward at the tips, creating a globe-like silhouette. The powdery glaucous coating on the foliage deepens in color under bright light, while reddish-brown marginal teeth line each leaf edge. Aloe Peglerae stays relatively small and tight.

          It produces a tall flower spike topped with tubular coral-to-red blooms in winter to early spring, typically flowering when exposed to cooler night temperatures. Moving it to a cooler location in autumn can encourage this flower display. The blooms produce pollen and may be a consideration for allergy-sensitive households.

          Rotate Aloe Peglerae regularly for an even, symmetrical rosette development. Move it outside in summer to soak up natural light, but provide cover from rain since wet conditions cause rot. Keep it away from air conditioning or heater vents, and place it on a high shelf out of reach of cats and dogs, as the sap can cause skin and paw irritation.
