  •   Palm Ponytail, also called elephant foot palm or bottle palm, is a drought-tolerant succulent tree native to the semi-arid scrublands of eastern Mexico. Despite its common name, it is not a true palm but a member of the Asparagaceae family, recognized for its swollen, water-storing trunk base.

Beaucarnea Recurvata has a bulbous trunk and long, arching, strap-like leaves that cascade downward from a single growing point like a fountain of green ribbons. The leaves are narrow and slightly rough-edged, reaching several feet in length, and the slow growth pattern allows the trunk to thicken and develop deep texture over time, giving older specimens a prehistoric appearance.

Mature plants occasionally produce tall plumes of cream or white flowers, though blooming indoors is rare and typically requires a noticeable drop in nighttime temperatures. On younger or non-blooming specimens, the cascading foliage and thickening trunk base remain the main features.

Move it outside in summer in a sunny spot, sheltering it from heavy rain and bringing it back inside before temperatures drop in autumn. Keep it away from direct air conditioning or heater vents, which damage leaf tips, though it handles the general dry air of a heated home without issue. You can leave it up to ten days without water. It is safe for cats and dogs and remains rare in many markets.

  •   Palm Ponytail thrives in bright direct sun but adapts well to lower light conditions indoors.

Water it deeply every two to three weeks in summer and once a month or less in winter.

Beaucarnea Recurvata does best in a fast-draining cactus and succulent mix amended with extra perlite.

It prefers temperatures between 60 and 85°F and should be protected from frost below 25°F.

Beaucarnea Recurvata is a slow-growing plant needing only light balanced fertilizer once or twice during the growing season.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11 and tolerates brief dips to around 25°F before frost becomes damaging. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, California, Texas, Arizona, Hawaii, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and Nevada. Parts of Oregon, New Mexico, and coastal regions of North Carolina also fall within these zones.
  • Q: How often should I water Palm Ponytail?
A: Every two to three weeks in the growing season, letting the soil dry out completely between waterings. In winter, once a month or even less is plenty.

Q: Is it safe for cats and dogs?
A: Palm Ponytail is non-toxic and safe for both cats and dogs.

Q: Why are the tips of my Beaucarnea Recurvata turning brown?
A: Brown tips are usually caused by dry air from heating or AC vents, inconsistent watering, or south-facing windows causing leaf scorch. Move it away from direct air flow and rotate occasionally for even growth.

Q: How much light does it need?
A: Beaucarnea Recurvata grows best near a sunny window with bright direct sun but adapts to lower light indoors, though growth slows and trunk development happens more gradually in dim conditions.

Q: How fast does Beaucarnea Recurvata grow?
A: It gains just a few inches per year indoors, developing character slowly over time.

    Q: Can I keep it outside year-round?
A: Beaucarnea Recurvata grows outdoors year-round in warm states like Florida, California, Texas, and Arizona, but in colder regions bring it indoors before autumn temperatures drop.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
